About Diabetes

Every 20 seconds someone new is diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes kills more Americans each year than AIDS and Breast Cancer combined. In fact, 1 in 3 of our children will develop diabetes in their lifetime if current trends continue.

In 2011, more than 18 million people JUST IN THE UNITED STATES were diagnosed with diabetes. Those are just the ones diagnosed. That doesn't include the millions who go undiagnosed and untreated each year.

Diabetes is a major cause of other health conditions such as heart disease and kidney failure.

Diabetes does not discriminate. The statistical information on this page was taken from The National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC). The chart below shows the staggering numbers of Americans by age and ethnicity as of 2010.
